Relax and Enjoy
Meeting my wife at this gorgeous property for a well-deserved three-day pass. May not leave the hotel, well except to visit the spa downstairs.

Busy
We have been running full tilt since arriving at the mobilization (mob) site. Between the training and the prep for our departure there has been very little personal time. Despite the pace and the long days, morale is still pretty high.
We have 2 more days of intense activity before taking a well deserved 3 day pass. We will have a culminating exercise to validate the unit and then conduct an airborne operation so everyone has the opportunity to jump.
We were able to provide our soldiers with their initial assignments in theater and a sense of where they will be working. I think the additional clarity is helpful.
We are waiting for movement details, no solid date yet, but a range of dates where we can expect to move.

Training Continues
It seems we are on the run 14 or more hours a day. The constant weapons training has improved everyone's shooting. Last night we perfect conditions for night fire, makes for a long satisfying day.

Gas Station or Restaurant
Our first meal off post was at a local gas station. Given the number of customers coming inside, I think more people come for the BBQ than for gas.
Pretty tasty stuff, certainly a meat eaters delight.

Location
We remain stateside, several weeks of training, equipping, and packing before we fly.
We are located in the deep south and connectivity to the Internet and the rest of civilization is challenging. If not for some spotty cell phone coverage I wouldn't be connected at all. My intent to stay in contact with family, friends, work, and school has been sporadic at best. I expect the next 2 weeks to be the most challenging in that regard. It will be a sad statement about infrastructure here if connectivity is better in theater.
Can you guess the location, pictured below is the field display outside the museum.

Friday night excitement
It has been an extremely busy week, barely time to check e-mail, and then only if it comes directly to the phone.
So the big excitement tonight was a 2 hour break to do laundry, and boy did I need it, my uniform was strong enough to stand on it's own.
16-18 hour days have been the norm, hope to ratchet it down this weekend to 8 hour days.
Army chow has not improved over the years. I haven't been hungry enough, or motivated enough to walk the 20 minutes to have breakfast at 6 in the morning. MRE'S have much fancier menu selections but rarely taste much better than cardboard.
Hot and muggy is the norm here, but we have been blessed with a lite breeze most days. All in all, we are adjusting to the new norm and morale is fairly good.

A note
Last 24 hours at the house for awhile, how would you spend the time. I will be packing, this isn't really an occasion that calls for celebration or a big send off.
We will spend 3 days at the unit outside Baltimore, then move to a training base in Mississippi for 3 weeks. Should be in theater around 1 October if all goes well.
Stay in touch.
